Scholarships for Students Who Graduated from High School in the 2023 Graduating Year

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION “IVY LEAGUE FUTURE EDUCATOR” SCHOLARSHIP

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a 2023 high school graduate who plans to major in the field of education at an accredited four year college or university. Requirements: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. This award was created by Deacon Ivy Levingston to encourage the best and brightest high school graduates to plan for a career in education, and who believe in the concept of “growing your own” teachers.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ABA GAYLE WILEY SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES*

One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student with a physical disability who is a 2023 high school graduate or an upper classman. This award was created through a personal donation by Aba Gayle Wiley for students with physical disabilities.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

The Brentwood Community Foundation Academic Scholarship for $4,000 will be awarded over a four-year period to a 2023 high school graduate to attend an accredited four-year college or university. A minimum 3.0 GPA must be maintained to receive the annual award. This award cannot be combined with any other scholarship award from Brentwood Community Foundation. Requirements: 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION BRENTWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP*

The Brentwood Baptist Church Scholarship is a $1,000 one-time award given to a 2023 high school graduate. Requirements: A member of Brentwood Baptist Church for at least one year prior to the time of application. A 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION HERRINGTON LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

The one-time $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to a 2023 high school graduate to pursue a degree in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at an accredited four-year college or university. Students should emphasize how they plan to pursue this interdisciplinary approach to their college studies. Requirements: 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale; an overall 3.0 average in mathematics and science courses. This award was created and funded by personal contributions from the Herrington family.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION JOHNNY L. WALKER, JR. AND GERALDINE WALKER EXCELLENCE AWARD

One $ 3,000 ($ 1,500 per semester) will be awarded to 2023 high school graduate to pursue higher education at an accredited four-year college or university in a major of his/her choice. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA to receive the award for the second semester. Requirements: 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Minimum 500 word essay on the topic “Changes in My Life.” The essay should include the applicant’s description of an event in his/her life that significantly altered his/her direction and achievement goals for life. The essay should be a reflection of the applicant’s narrative and descriptive writing abilities. This scholarship is funded by Johnny L. Walker Jr. and Geraldine Walker, with a matching contribution from Chevron U.S.A.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION JOHNNY L. WALKER, JR. AND GERALDINE WALKER HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

One $ 2,100 ($ 1,050 each semester) scholarship will be awarded to a 2023 high school graduate to pursue higher education at an accredited four-year college or university in a major of his/her choice. The student must maintain a 2.75 GPA to receive the award for the second semester. Requirements: 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Minimum 500 word essay on the topic “Changes in My Life.” The essay should include the applicant’s description of an event in his/her life that significantly altered his/her direction and achievement goals for life. Minimum 500 word essay on the topic “Meeting Myself Four Years Ago.” The essay should be a response to an opportunity to have lunch with the person that the applicant was four years ago. What has changed about the applicant? What has stayed the same? The essay should compare and contrast personal reflections of the applicant’s life and achievement goals today compared to four years ago. The essay should be a reflection of the applicant’s narrative and descriptive writing abilities. This scholarship is funded by Johnny L. BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION MELBA (CARSON) & WARNER ERVIN EDUCATION/AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP

Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to two 2023 high school graduates pursuing a degree in Education or Agriculture. Requirements: Minimum 500-word essay titled “How I Was Affected by COVID-19”; personal statement including educational goals; 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The Melba (Carson) & Warner Ervin Education / Agriculture Scholarship is funded by Melba (Carson) & Warner Ervin.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TERRENCE AND TERRI GEE EMERGING LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP*

Three $3,000 Emerging Leaders Scholarships will be awarded to three students currently enrolled in a four year accredited college or university, or a 2023 high school graduate, to pursue a degree in the field of their choice. Requirements: 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and participation in extra-curricular and community service activities. Students must currently hold or recently have held a leadership position in two or more extracurricular activities in school, church, or the community; minimum 500 word essay titled “Being a Leader, Not Just a Follower”. These awards were created and funded by personal contributions from Terrence and Terri Gee.

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY FOUNDATION THE REUBEN WHEATLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP*

The Reuben Wheatley Memorial Scholarship will fund three awards of $2,500 each, to three 2023 high school graduates to pursue a degree in the field of their choice at an accredited four-year college or university. The recipients must be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 credit hours. The family of Reuben Wheatley funds these two memorial scholarships in honor of their patriarch whose priorities, instilled by his parents, remained intact throughout his life: God, family, friends, and fun. Reuben, a financial supporter of the Brentwood Community Foundation Scholarship Program for over twenty years, truly believed in funding the “Village” legacy.
