At the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy in Fort Bend County, Victim Service Providers gained an understanding of vicarious trauma/compassion fatigue. Participants explored the impact serving victims of crime has on service providers; including stages of burnout and evidenced-based self care strategies. Stages of burnout and self-care assessments were utilized to assist attendees in identifying their current levels of compassion fatigue and self-care. Participants utilized play-dough and bouncy puddy to illustrate the impact of victim services and self-care. Training evaluations reported an increase in knowledge and motivation for implementation of self-care strategies.
Six and half hours of general continuing education units (CEU) were awarded for LPC, SW, LMFT, and TCLEOSE.
